If you want to know how to install VPN on the GliNet router using the OpenVPN protocol, follow this step-by-step guide.
We used PureVPN as an example because they provide native apps for various devices. You can read more about the features on the PureVPN review page.
How to connect PureVPN manually on GLiNet Router
Follow the steps
Prerequisites – Before you begin, please make sure that you have:
- Working internet connection.
- VPN Supported Router – we used GLiNet, and you can get it on Amazon.
- Premium PureVPN account (get the PureVPN account with discounts)
Log in to the PureVPN members area using your PureVPN registered email address and password to find your VPN credentials for manual configuration.
From the manage account section, go to the subscriptions tab.
On the Subscription tab, scroll down to view your VPN credentials.
Note down your PureVPN username, click the Eye icon to make your password visible, and use it in the manual configuration.
- 1a. Shows an Ethernet connection from the router to the computer.
- 1b. Shows a wireless connection from the router to the computer.
Drag and drop your selected OVPN file to your router. A new window will pop up asking you to specify your PureVPN credentials. Please type them in.
Next, put a tick next to the Enable option.
You are now connected.
We used a GLiNet router with additional functionality that can be specially configured for a VPN connection. Of course, many routers are ready to work with some VPN out of the box, but it is possible to configure a router to connect to your VPN manually.
If you still didn’t get a PureVPN account, choose your plan and get one of the best VPNs.
Don’t forget to check if you need a Dedicated IP or Port forwarding. They are available as add-ons.
